On Saturday, June 14th, we gathered at Batavia Brewing Co to celebrate the release of our debut EP From the Other Side. With a beautiful audience of around 60 people, the space felt intimate, open-hearted, and full of connection — a special night for us to share music, art, and the creative journey behind this project.
The evening began with the radiant Alida Sue and Special Brew, whose soulful harmonies and rhythmic energy warmed the crowd and set the tone for the night. We (Xhalisse) followed, performing hal a set of unreleased tracks and live favourites, before launching into the the songs from the EP in full. It was such a powerful feeling to bring these songs into a live setting — songs that had lived in journals, demos, and studio headphones for over a year finally had the chance to breathe in the open, with the energy of the crowd feeding every note.
We were honoured to close our set knowing Menma would be following — and they delivered a moving, high-impact finale with their intricate soundscapes, raw energy and unmistakable stage chemistry.
The space was transformed not only by the music but by a pop-up art exhibition curated by Sarah, featuring original visual artworks inspired by the process of writing and recording the songs — and the journey of Xhalisse more broadly. The works reflected emotional themes from the EP: transformation, grief, release, disorientation, and emergence. People lingered with the artworks between sets, drawing personal meaning and sparking beautiful conversations throughout the night.
The launch also marked the first chance to share physical USB's of From the Other Side, featuring a full lyric booklet and original artwork and launch some limited release merch. A few days later, on June 18th, the EP was released online via all major streaming platforms, as well as on Amrap and triple j Unearthed.
We’re deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this event possible — our support acts, the venue, crew, and our amazing local community who continue to show up and support original music and creativity in regional WA.
This project was made possible through support from Regional Arts WA and the Regional Arts Fund, whose contribution enabled us to record, produce, and launch this EP in the way it deserved. Their support was acknowledged throughout the project — in all our social media and ticketing promo, on the gig posters and website write-ups, and of course, verbally on the night itself.
From the Other Side is a deeply personal collection of songs exploring the in-between — the liminal space between grief and growth, dissolution and reinvention. And this launch event was exactly the kind of shared experience we’d hoped it would become — emotional, celebratory, and rooted in creative connection.
Thank you to everyone who’s listened, come to a show, or shared the EP — you’re a part of this unfolding story.
With love and gratitude,
Xhalisse
